Butera
& Andrews works out a lobbying fee arrangement
with every client on a case-by-case basis.
- We
have found that circumstances vary greatly, and
that the best and fairest approach is to consult
with the client at the outset of the
relationship and mutually agree upon a
compensation approach.
- Often,
it is difficult for either us or the client to
know with any degree of precision at the outset
of a representation what amount of time and
effort will be required to meet the client's
needs. Accordingly, in such cases we are
likely to propose an interim compensation
method, that we will reevaluate and modify as
appropriate, in consultation with the client,
after a period of time.
- In
many cases, we represent the client on the basis
of an annual retainer, pro-rated into monthly
increments.
- In
other situations, we will be compensated on the
basis of hourly fees.
- Increasingly,
we are using a combination approach where the
client pays a modest minimum monthly retainer,
but also pays on an hourly basis if more than a
specified level of time is required in any
month.
- In
addition to our base retainer and/or hourly
compensation, in appropriate cases, our
compensation may include a supplementary or
bonus amount that is keyed to the results
obtained.
- We
also charge clients for expenses (e.g., copying;
cabs; out-of-town travel; faxes; long distance
calls; etc.) incurred in connection with their
work.
- In
any case, we are confident that our fees are
quite competitive and are comparable----and
frequently lower than----those charged by other
leading lobbying firms.
